Rep. Sykes Announces Over $1.1 Million To Support Family Planning Services In Ohio
AKRON, OH — Today, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) announced the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) awarded a $1,182,480 grant to Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio to increase access to family planning services.
“Every person in Ohio’s 13th District should be able to determine for themselves if, when, and how to start or grow a family,” said Rep. Sykes. “At a time when extreme politicians at the state and national levels are attacking women’s freedom to make their own healthcare decisions, this investment will ensure Northeast Ohioans have access to the quality reproductive healthcare they need to live healthy and safe lives.”
The grant is funded through the Title X service grant program. The Title X family planning program is a critical part of America’s public health safety net, serving as a point-of-entry into care for nearly 195 million over the program’s more than 50-year history.
Title X recipients provide a broad range of medically approved family planning services, which includes all Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved contraceptive products and natural family planning methods for clients such as:
- Pregnancy prevention and birth spacing,
- Pregnancy testing and counseling,
- Assistance to achieve pregnancy,
- Basic infertility services,
- Sexually transmitted infection services, and
- Other preconception health services.
Title X projects may also provide other reproductive health and related preventative health services that are considered beneficial to reproductive health, such as HPV vaccination, provision of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), breast and cervical cancer screening, and screening for obesity, smoking, drug and alcohol use, mental health, and intimate partner violence.
