TITLE: DIRECTOR OF OUTREACH
REPORTS TO: DISTRICT DIRECTOR
LOCATION: OHIO
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- to oversee all district office operations and staff regarding outreach services;
- to monitor and update the Member and District Director on district and local issues;
- to understand the needs of the district through feedback from Field Representatives; and
- to act as liaison with federal, district, and local agencies on behalf of the Member.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- ability to provide necessary organization, leadership, and motivation;
- excellent oral and written communication skills;
- knowledge of legislative process and of House organization and procedures;
- knowledge of all issues and events in the district in which the Member is involved;
- proficiency in word processing;
- strong telephone skills;
- thoroughness and careful attention to detail;
- skill in organizing and prioritizing work tasks and activities;
- ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in fulfillment Office responsibilities;
- availability to work atypical hours;
- ability to work well under pressure; and

DUTIES:
- assists with strategic planning of the Member’s district work period appearances and events; provides feedback on opportunities for the Member to connect with constituents; Primary lead for the planning and execution of outreach events; and assists with other projects as required.
- develops and maintains relationships on behalf of Member with local elected officials, government agencies, local businesses, community organizations, and constituents in assigned geographic/policy area(s) within the district.
- represents the Member at civic meetings, hearings, and community events to monitor developments, opinions and concerns.
- remains current on legislative and non-legislative issues affecting constituents in the region; updates the Member, District Director and relevant policy staff on local developments in assigned region/portfolio.
- plans, assigns, and evaluates work of applicable employees in district offices;
- interviews and trains employees of district offices to handle Office matters such as logging incoming and outgoing correspondence, handling visitors, telephone calls, and computer operations;
- speaks to local groups when the Member is unavailable;
- maintains close communications with the Washington, DC, office;
- travels throughout the district at regular intervals to keep abreast of local concerns;
- acts as liaison and interfaces with city, county, district, and federal officials, the chamber
of commerce and other persons or groups to form effective relationships for the Member; - provides detailed memorandums to prepare the Member for their scheduled engagements;
- works with the Member’s Executive Scheduler and Press Secretary to ensure appropriate media participation within the community on issues of importance; and
- performs other duties as assigned.

DUTIES:
- acts as the grass roots representative for the Member within his or her area of responsibility including verbal communications with constituents and community stakeholders, and acting as liaison with federal, district, and local agencies;
- informs the Member, and District Director of all happenings in his or her assigned issue areas;
- travels throughout the district at regular intervals to keep abreast of local concerns;
- acts as liaison and interfaces with city, county, district, and federal officials, the chamber of commerce and other persons or groups to form effective relationships for the Member;
- handles casework assignments as assigned;
- monitors scheduled district meetings for the Member with constituents;
- speaks to local groups when the Member is unavailable;
- maintains close communications with the Washington, DC, office;
- prepares regular reports for the District Director on district activities in his or her assigned issue areas;
- maintains up-to-date files on all cases and categories of information of importance to the office; and
- performs other duties as assigned.
TITLE: TEMPORARY COMMUNICATIONS ASSISTANT
REPORTS TO: Chief of Staff
LOCATION: Ohio
Congresswoman Emilia Sykes (OH-13) is seeking an enthusiastic and creative temporary communications assistant to work in her Akron, Ohio office full-time from mid-June to the end of October, 2026. This position will work closely with the communications director and the district-based team.
Excellent writing, verbal and organizational skills are essential along with the ability to be a self-starter while working in a fast-paced environment. Job responsibilities include editing videos, creating graphics, photographing events, writing press releases and short speeches, and other duties as assigned. Previous communications experience is required.

TITLE: STAFF ASSISTANT
REPORTS TO: District Director
LOCATION: Ohio
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- to maintain and manage the front office operations of the District office; and
- to support the coordination of Congressional challenges and programming with other Member offices and Executive Departments;
- to act as liaison for the Member with the staff, public, and community stakeholders.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- at least two years of office experience;
- strong telephone skills;
- strong oral and written communication skills;
- ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to prioritization of and recommendations on Member appointments;
- proficiency in word processing and typing;
- strong organizational and filing skills;
- thoroughness and careful attention to detail;
- experience making travel reservations and arrangements;
- temperament to communicate with a variety of personalities in a tactful, pleasant, and professional manner;
- availability to work atypical hours;
- ability to work well under pressure; and
- ability to work cooperatively and courteously with others.
DUTIES:
Front Office Management
- answers and screens telephone calls for the Member and other staff members and takes messages;
- greets and screens visitors;
- assists persons who have appointments with the Member or other staff members;
- maintains handout literature regarding the district and the House;
- signs for deliveries and forwards all materials delivered to the office to appropriate staff members in a timely manner;
- Maintains the inventory of office supplies;
- maintains the office answering machine or voicemail;
- ensures that requests for assistance are directed to the appropriate staff member in a timely manner;
- writes down visitor opinions, including full name, address, and all relevant information.;
- Prepares regular reports for the District Director on district activities in assigned issue areas;
- Assists the district staff to complete constituent casework and non-casework activities ? Oversees the district mail program;
- Manages the internship program;
Scheduling and Member Administrative Support
- maintains important numbers, locations, and contact names for Member use;
- reviews the Member’s mail and invitations in a timely manner, in coordination with the District Director;
- responds to all invitations, either by written correspondence or by personal telephone call;
- maintains files of invitations that have been declined, accepted, or that are tentative or pending; and
- ensures that the Member is provided with briefing materials for each event
Community Support
- supports the District Director in staffing various events throughout the district, as needed;
- Coordinates with the District Director to delegate responsibilities;
- acts as a representative for the Member, including verbal communications with constituents and community stakeholders, and acting as liaison with federal, district, and local agencies; and
- performs other duties as assigned.
Green & Gold Congressional Aide
- Working as a constituent services representative;
- Helping local constituents resolve issues with federal agencies;
- Serving as liaison to local Veterans Service Organizations;
- Attending local events and meetings on behalf of the Member of Congress; and
- Performing legislative work.
SPECIFIC DUTIES FOR EACH OFFICE WILL BE DISCUSSED DURING THE INTERVIEW PROCESS. IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE YOU MUST BE A VETERAN, GOLD STAR FAMILY MEMBER, OR ACTIVE-DUTY SPOUSE AND MEET ALL THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS. NO WAIVERS WILL BE GRANTED:
- Honorably discharged;
- Released from active duty within the last six years;
- Pay grades at or below E-5/O-3/W-2;
- Veterans promoted to the pay grades of E-6/O-4/W-3 WITHIN 6-MONTHS OF SEPARATION from active duty may be eligible if they meet ALL other requirements
- Veterans who are in receipt of a 20-year or Temporary Early Retirement Authority (TERA) retirement are not eligible for the program.
- A surviving spouse, child/step-child, parent/step-parent, or sibling/step-sibling of a veteran who died:
- In the line of duty while serving in the Armed Forces; or
- from a service-connected disability.
- Must be the spouse of an Active-Duty service member. Active-Duty service members work for the military full-time and are subject to permanent change of station or permanent change of assignment orders upon completion of each tour of duty.
- Those subject to Title X mobilization are not eligible
Additional Requirements
Detail oriented; excellent organization skills; strong computer skills; ability to complete projects within timelines and under minimal supervision. Ability to work well under pressure and maintain a professional and courteous work disposition; ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in handling sensitive information; ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. High School Diploma required. Effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary.
