Rep. Sykes Urges Swift Passage of the RAIL Act Following U.S. Senate Committee Hearing on East Palestine
WASHINGTON, D.C.— U.S. Representative Emilia Strong Sykes (OH-13) issued the following statement after today’s Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation hearing regarding the East Palestine train derailment. During the hearing, Gov. Mike DeWine voiced his support for H.R. 1633, the RAIL Act, sponsored by Rep. Sykes and Rep. Bill Johnson (OH-06).
“We simply cannot afford to wait for yet another catastrophic train derailment to upend a community before Congress takes action to improve the safety of our railways. We need to pass the RAIL Act now to prevent future train derailments and keep our communities safe,” said Rep. Sykes. “I am proud to have bipartisan support for this commonsense legislation, including Gov. DeWine and my fellow Ohio delegation colleagues. Let’s get this done to protect the people of Ohio and communities across the country.”
