Ohio Delegation Telephone Townhall: Straight Talk on the Shutdown & Health Care Crossroads

October 22, 2025
6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Join Rep. Emilia Sykes and other members of the Ohio Congressional Delegation for a telephone townhall focused on the ongoing government shutdown.

About The Event

On Wednesday, October 22, 2025, Rep. Emilia Sykes (OH-13) will be participating in the “Straight Talk on the Shutdown & Health Care Crossroads,” a live Virtual Town Hall to help Ohioans understand and navigate the ongoing federal government shutdown and its connection to the emerging health care coverage crisis.

The discussion will highlight how the lapse in federal funding and the potential loss of Affordable Care Act (ACA) Marketplace tax credits are affecting families, small businesses, and federal workers across Central Ohio.

Rep. Sykes will be joined by some of her Ohio Democratic colleagues: Rep. Joyce Beatty (OH-03), Rep. Shontel Brown (OH-11), and Rep. Greg Landsman (OH-01)—for a conversation focused on how Ohioans can access resources, protect coverage, and prepare for the weeks ahead. Constituents can join by phone or online to hear updates and ask questions in real time.

Key Topics Include:

  • Understanding the Shutdown: How it began, what’s at stake, and what it means for Ohio families and communities.
  • Navigating the Shutdown: What remains operational, what’s at risk in a prolonged closure, and what state and local resources are available to sustain vital programs and services.
  • Responding to the Health Care Crossroads: How Ohioans—especially small business owners, self-employed individuals, and gig workers—can prepare for the potential loss of ACA tax credits and Medicaid cuts under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (H.R. 1).
  • Standing with Federal Workers: Rights, protections, and available resources during the shutdown.
