Rep. Sykes Announces $1.85 Million Federal Grant for Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio to Expand Access to Family Planning Services

AKRON, OH — Today, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded $1,850,361 to Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio through the Title X Family Planning Program.

Title X is the nation’s only federal program dedicated to providing family planning and preventive health services to individuals with low incomes. Established in 1970, the program supports services such as birth control, cancer screenings, and STI testing through community-based health providers.

“This federal investment will help ensure that individuals and families in Ohio have access to essential preventive care,” said Rep. Sykes. “No one should be denied basic health services because of cost. This funding strengthens access to affordable, high-quality care and supports healthier communities across our region.”

The funding will support Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio’s network of health centers, including services provided at the Akron Health Center, by expanding access to affordable care.

“Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio is grateful to receive another year of funding from the Title X Family Planning Program, the nation’s only federal program dedicated to providing no and low-cost critical family planning services, such as birth control and STI testing, to people who can’t otherwise afford these services on their own,” said PPGOH President and CEO Erica Wilson-Domer. “At Planned Parenthood, we believe that everyone deserves affordable, accessible care they need to control their reproductive futures — no matter where they live, how much money they have, or what insurance they have. This funding allows us to continue to use a sliding fee scale and to participate in the 340B Drug Pricing Program, which enables patients at our Akron Health Center and across the state to access affordable care options that align with their ability to pay.”

Rep. Sykes remains committed to lowering health care costs and expanding access to essential care for families across Ohio’s 13th Congressional District.
