Rep. Sykes Secures Federal Grant for Akron Fulton International Airport

AKRON, OH — Today, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) announced the Federal Aviation Administration has awarded the Akron Fulton International Airport $72,159 for safety upgrades.

“Keeping our airports safe and operational year-round is critical to Northeast Ohio’s economy and public safety. This federal investment will give the Akron Fulton International Airport the tools it needs to quickly and effectively clear runways during severe weather, helping protect pilots, passengers, and airport personnel. I’m proud to deliver this funding to support safer, more reliable air travel in our community,” said Rep. Sykes.

“Thank you to Congresswoman Emilia Sykes' Office and the Department of Transportation for awarding the City of Akron with this grant. We plan to use this grant to purchase a MB3 snow removal vehicle with its broom and plow attachments. The MB3 vehicle is a more efficient tool to remove snow and slush from runways, safer to operate with an intuitive menu navigation system, and reduces operation costs by utilizing fewer pieces of equipment and lowering overall maintenance and manual labor. With these funds, we're able to invest in high-quality equipment that will improve the experience for the users of our airport,” said Akron Mayor Shammas Malik.

This funding will allow the airport to purchase a carrier vehicle with broom and plow attachments, which will enhance its ability to clear the airfield during adverse weather conditions.
