AKRON, OH – U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) announced the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services awarded $250,000 to Shelter Care Inc. in Tallmadge to support pregnant, homeless teens and parental education for young people in Ohio’s 13th Congressional District.
“Organizations like Shelter Care provide critical resources and assistance for young parents in our communities. I’m glad to announce this funding to support the ongoing work of this organization,” said Rep. Sykes.
“It is with great appreciation to share that Shelter Care, Inc. was approved for funding through the Maternity Group Home grant from the Department of Health and Human Services. Since 2008, this funding has been instrumental in supporting The Highlands program which provides residential and non-residential support and services to pregnant and parenting teens. Shelter Care looks forward to the ability to continue to serve our community through the contribution of this funding,” said Shelter Care Inc. Executive Director Joe Rizzo.
Shelter Care, Inc. was awarded $250,000 for their Maternity Group Homes Runaway and Homeless Youth Program, which provides support for homeless pregnant and parenting young people, ages 16-22, and their children.
