Rep. Sykes Announces $500,000 to Stark County Prosecutor’s Office
CANTON, OH – U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) announced the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women awarded $500,000 to the Stark County Prosecutor’s Office for a program to improve the criminal justice responses to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
“I am excited to announce this funding, which will further cement a relationship between two key public safety stakeholders in our community — the Stark County Prosecutor’s Office and the Domestic Violence Project, Inc. — and the effort to create safer communities,” said Rep. Sykes. “Improving the collaboration between our criminal justice system and our non profits will ensure domestic survivors receive the holistic support they need, so I am proud to bring these funds back to Ohio’s 13th Congressional District to help accomplish just that.”
“In our efforts to be innovative in our pursuit against crime, we are excited to receive this federal grant for our Family Justice Center. This grant will help lay the foundation for the Stark County Prosecutor’s Office as well as our partner agencies to provide the necessary services and support to the citizens of Stark County. We look forward to doing the work that’s going to positively impact our community,” said Stark County Prosecutor Kyle Stone.
With this funding, the Stark County Prosecutor’s Office, in partnership with the Domestic Violence Project, Inc., will foster victim safety and offender accountability in cases of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking by:
- Hiring key personnel to facilitate the operation of the Family Justice Center;
- Locating project partners;
- Implementing a shared intake system;
- Providing holistic civil legal services; and
- Increasing knowledge, understanding and participation in the criminal justice system.
