Rep. Sykes Announces $800,000 National Science Foundation Grant Awarded To University of Akron
AKRON, OH - Today, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) announced the University of Akron has received an $800,000 grant award from the U.S. National Science Foundation. The grant award will create a one year-long professional training program to better prepare PhD students and postdoctoral participants for a successful career as engineering professors.
“As a member of the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee, I often discuss the importance of improving diversity and representation in the S.T.E.A.M fields. This $800,000 grant will help provide women and people of color at the University of Akron with the tools and support they need to thrive in engineering faculty roles. Creating a highly skilled, diverse class of educators will result in better-equipped newly trained engineers entering the workforce,” said Rep. Sykes.
