Rep. Sykes Announces $800,000 To Support Mental Health And Substance Abuse Programming In Summit County

AKRON, OH - Today, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) announced the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded $800,000 in Mental Health & Substance Abuse Service Grants to Ohio’s 13th Congressional District. The grant awards will provide funding to support individuals with mental illnesses or mental health and substance abuse disorders who come into contact with the justice system.

“Programs that support individuals with mental illness in the criminal justice system are essential for breaking the cycle of incarceration and promoting recovery. Investing $800,000 to expand programs like Summit County’s Valor Court to support veterans and the PIVOT Drug Court to support individuals with substance abuse issues creates a more just and humane system that prioritizes rehabilitation and reintegration into society,” said Rep. Sykes.

  • Oriana House (Akron): $400,000

  • County of Summit: $400,000
