Rep. Sykes Announces More Than $31 Million for Northeast Ohio Hospitals
AKRON, OH — Today, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) announced the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded the Aultman Health Foundation and the Cleveland Clinic Foundation a combined $31.1 million in federal funding for costs incurred during or as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“During the COVID-19 pandemic, our hospitals and health care workers stepped up in extraordinary ways to care for our communities under unprecedented circumstances,” said Rep. Sykes. “This federal funding will help reimburse critical costs incurred while protecting patients, supporting frontline workers, and saving lives across Northeast Ohio. I’m grateful to the Aultman Health Foundation and Cleveland Clinic Foundation for their continued commitment to delivering high-quality care to Northeast Ohio families.”
Of the total funding allocated, $21,887,124 was awarded to the Aultman Health Foundation and $9,257,104 was awarded to the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Funding for both institutions will be spread across the respective hospital systems. The funding can be used for costs incurred during or as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, including staff overtime costs, contracted medical help, personal protective equipment, and other material costs, including but not limited to ventilators, thermometers, and cleaning supplies.
FEMA obligates funding for these projects directly to the state of Ohio. It is the state’s responsibility to ensure the hospitals receive these awards. Following the state's review process and upon receipt of appropriate documentation, they will provide funds to the hospitals.
