Rep. Sykes, Democrats Re-Introduce PRO Act To Improve The Lives Of Working People

WASHINGTON, D.C.— U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) co-led the reintroduction of the bipartisan Richard L. Trumka Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act. Rep. Sykes, who is a member of the Congressional Labor Caucus, co-sponsored the introduction of the legislation in 118th Congress and proudly continues to support and work alongside unions in Ohio’s 13th Congressional District and across the country.

“When workers have the power to stand together and form a union, they have higher wages, better benefits, and safer working conditions,” said Rep. Sykes. “One of my top priorities in Congress is to expand opportunities for the people in my district and across the country, and that’s precisely what the PRO Act will do for workers. If America is going to continue to be the land of opportunity, then we need to make sure hard work pays off.”

The PRO Act protects the basic right to join a union by:

  • Empowering workers to exercise their right to organize;
  • Holding employers accountable for violating workers’ rights; and
  • Securing free, fair, and safe union elections.

In addition to supporting the PRO Act, she is also a co-sponsor of several other pro-labor bills to support workers, including:

  • The Paycheck Fairness Act to combat wage discrimination and ensure equal pay for equal work;
  • The Tax Fairness for Workers Act to make the tax code fairer by allowing workers to deduct union dues and work-related expenses; and
  • The No Tax Breaks for Union Busting Act that would deny American taxpayer subsidies for corporate activity intended to discourage workers from exercising their legally protected right to unionize.
