Rep. Sykes Hosts 2025 Academy Day

GREEN, OH — Over the weekend, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) hosted Academy Day at Green High School for students in Ohio’s 13th Congressional District who are interested in attending a U.S. Military Service Academy. Rep. Sykes has the honor of nominating the best and brightest youth to the U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, U.S. Military Academy, and U.S. Naval Academy.

“As your Member of Congress, it is an honor to nominate students from Ohio’s 13th Congressional District to attend our country’s respected service academies,” said Rep. Sykes. “The decision to apply to a Service Academy is a personal one and one of the most selfless forms of service to our community and our country. I am humbled to be a part of the process.”

At Academy Day, the Office of Rep. Sykes was joined by representatives from each of the five U.S. Military Service Academies. They provided prospective applicants information on their programs and admissions process, and staff from Rep. Sykes’ office provided information on how to apply for a nomination from our office. For the Service Academy graduating class of 2030, the deadline to submit all application materials to our office is October 17, 2025 by 5 p.m.

The U.S. Service Academies are among the most highly respected educational programs in the nation. To be admitted to an academy, a prospective applicant must meet stringent academic, physical, and medical requirements specified by public law. Service Academy cadets are provided a fully-funded four-year college education. By law, graduates of service academies are appointed commissioned officers in their respective service and are required to serve at least five years of active duty. For graduates of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, the obligation can be active duty for five years in any branch, or eight years in a reserve capacity.

If you, or a student you know, would like more information about attending one of the U.S. service academies, or have questions about the application process, please visit sykes.house.gov/services/student-opportunities/service-academy-nominations for more details on the nomination process, or contact Rep. Sykes’ office at 330-400-5350.
