Rep. Sykes Hosts Congressional App Challenge Webinar

AKRON, OH — Yesterday, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) hosted a Congressional App Challenge Webinar, with special guests from the Congressional App Challenge and the Cleveland FBI. The event brought together students and families in Ohio’s 13th Congressional District to learn about the Congressional App Challenge. The Office of Congresswoman Sykes was joined by Ryan Kirzner,  Congressional App Challenge Congressional Operations Coordinator, and Special Agent Peter Mauro of the FBI Cleveland Division.

“This challenge is an excellent opportunity for middle and high school students in Ohio’s 13th Congressional District to showcase their creativity and technological skills. Our region has long been known for innovation, and the Congressional App Challenge continues that strong tradition. I strongly encourage students of all skill levels to participate and learn how to create their own apps,” said Rep. Sykes.

"As the Congressional Operations Coordinator for the 2024 Congressional App Challenge, I’m thrilled to see how this year’s participants are pushing the boundaries of innovation and creativity. The Congressional App Challenge continues to serve as a platform for young minds to develop solutions that can transform communities and reshape the future of technology. It’s inspiring to witness students from across the country showcase their talents and bring their ideas to life, and I look forward to seeing the lasting impact they’ll make,” said Ryan Kirzner,  Congressional App Challenge Congressional Operations Coordinator.

“The FBI is home to countless STEM-related jobs with opportunities for a very rewarding career. Exploring STEM courses and programs while in school allows students to discover their interests and uncover a myriad of possibilities as they begin to think about their academic journey and plans for the future. We’re proud of the students who took part in this event and applaud the encouragement and support by their families,” said Susan Licate, FBI Cleveland Division Public Affairs Officer.

Each year, the House of Representatives hosts the Congressional App Challenge, a nationwide app building competition for middle and high school students. During this webinar, students will learn about what the Congressional App Challenge is and how to participate. Representatives from the Cleveland FBI will be there to discuss the importance of computer science in the workplace.

The winning app of the district's competition will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol, along with winning apps from all participating districts across the country. The deadline to submit an app for consideration in this year's competition is October 24, 2024 by 11:59 p.m.
