CANTON, OH— Today, U.S. Representative Emilia Strong Sykes (OH-13) hosted a roundtable with elected officials from Stark County to discuss the issues most important to these communities, and how she can best support local efforts to improve the lives of residents in the area.
The roundtable capped off a week-long tour of Stark County, which included visits to Stark Area Regional Transit Authority (SARTA), Stark State College, OhioMeansJobs Stark, Timken Company, and TimkenSteel.
“It was a pleasure to meet with local leaders across Stark County this week,” said Rep. Sykes. “I’m proud of the work our local officials and organizations are doing to make public transit equitable and accessible, provide affordable education, connect Ohioans to good-paying jobs, and address the many needs of our communities. I’ll continue to take your voice and concerns with me to Washington, and support efforts to expand opportunity for all constituents in Ohio’s 13th Congressional District.”
On Wednesday morning, Rep. Sykes met with SARTA CEO Kirt Conrad to tour the SARTA facility and learn more about the transportation needs of Stark County residents. That afternoon, Rep. Sykes visited Stark State College to meet with President Dr. Para Jones, tour the campus, and discuss how community colleges train our workforce with 21st-century skills. Rep. Sykes then toured the Timken Company, a global leader in friction management, power transmission, and metallurgy.
On Thursday morning, Rep. Sykes met with OhioMeansJobs Stark Executive Director JoAnn Breedlove and several team members to learn more about their efforts to provide resources for job seekers and employers in Stark and Tuscarawas Counties.
