Rep. Sykes Joins Bipartisan Resolution Standing With Israel
WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) joined a bipartisan resolution introduced by House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) and Ranking Member Gregory W. Meeks (D-NY) standing with Israel as it defends itself against the barbaric war launched by Hamas and other terrorists and condemning Hamas’ brutal war against Israel.
“I strongly condemn the violent and horrific attack by the terrorist organization Hamas on the State of Israel. Attacks on innocent civilians are heinous and never justified. I am praying for the families in mourning and communities impacted by this violence,” said Rep. Sykes. “I stand firmly and unequivocally with the Israeli people, the right for Israel to exist, and reaffirm my commitment to supporting the State of Israel in its right to defend itself. We will not let terrorists win.”
The text of the resolution can be found here.
Rep. Sykes also signed on to a bipartisan letter to U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken urging him to direct the U.S. Embassy in Israel to submit an evacuation request so President Biden can direct a Noncombatant Evacuation Operation (NEO) to evacuate American citizens currently in Israel. Given the escalating situation and suspension of flights in and out of Israel, it is imperative that we do all we can to bring Americans home safely.
In August, Rep. Sykes, as part of a group of 24 House Democrats led by Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Rep. Steny Hoyer, traveled to Israel to gain a firsthand understanding of challenges in the region, and bolster one of America’s most strategic and impactful international relationships.
