Rep. Sykes Presents $2,190,000 Check For East Tuscarawas Streetscape Project In Canton
CANTON, OH—U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) recently presented a ceremonial check to Canton Mayor William V. Sherer II for $2,190,000 in Community Project Funding for the East Tuscarawas Streetscape Project.
“Connecting our communities means growth and opportunity. I am proud to have delivered funding to improve connectivity throughout the city of Canton,” said Rep. Sykes. “This investment will encourage economic growth, improve traffic conditions, and uplift one of Canton’s legacy neighborhoods.”
“This is an exciting project that will allow us to improve the connectivity of important downtown resources to adjacent neighborhoods through improved multimodal transportation initiatives. It will also help beautify an area of the City that is long overdue for investment,” said Mayor Sherer.
The City of Canton will use this funding to reshape East Tuscarawas St. to improve driver and pedestrian safety by reducing the width of the roadway at pedestrian crossing areas. The project will help facilitate the rehabilitation of the eastern gateway into downtown Canton.
The $2,190,000 for the East Tuscarawas Streetscape Project is one of the 12 Community Project Funding recipients, totaling more than $14.9 million, that Rep. Sykes secured in the recently passed 2024 federal spending bill. The other projects included in this funding can be found here.
