Rep. Sykes Secures Over $11.5 Million For Canton City Schools Building Upgrades
CANTON, OH — Today, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) announced the U.S. Department of Energy has awarded Canton City Schools $11,550,000 to address energy efficiency and maintenance issues in its buildings. Rep. Sykes helped secure this funding by providing a letter of support for Canton City Schools’ grant application.
“I am excited to announce this vital funding, which will not only help Canton City Schools with the costs of these upgrades, but will also help the district save money for years to come by upgrading energy efficiency. Students in our community deserve high-quality learning environments, and I will continue to work to bring funding back to Ohio’s 13th Congressional District to help improve our schools,” said Rep. Sykes.
“We are thrilled to be announced as one of 16 school districts this year to be selected to receive prize money from the U.S. Department of Energy's Renew America's School Grant. Canton City Schools will receive $11.5 million to address many areas of deficiency in our buildings throughout our district such as roofs, windows, HVAC, Lighting, and more. This project will help our district ensure that our students have the best operational learning environment that all of our staff, students, and community deserves now and for the future.” said Canton City Schools Assistant Superintendent Jason Dixon.
Canton City Schools received a $300,000 award to conduct energy audits in 15 buildings. The remaining $11.25 million will fund the planning, design and completion of the projects suggested by the audit. Canton City Schools is one of 16 school districts nationwide to receive this funding through the U.S. Department of Energy's Renew America's Schools Program. This program gives K-12 public school districts the chance to make energy upgrades to decrease usage and costs, improve indoor air quality and foster healthier learning environments.
