Rep. Sykes Statement On The Hostage Release And Humanitarian Pause In Gaza
AKRON, OH — Today, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) released the following statement:
“I am thankful for the leadership of the Biden-Harris Administration in facilitating a deal to secure the release of hostages taken by the terrorist group Hamas during its brutal assault against Israel on October 7. This humanitarian pause will ensure innocent hostages, including several Americans, can return home safely to their loved ones, while also allowing humanitarian assistance to reduce the suffering of innocent Palestinian families in Gaza,” said Rep. Sykes. “This pause is a significant step in the right direction, but there is still much more work to be done to create lasting peace in the region and bring the remaining hostages home. I will continue working with my colleagues to pass a comprehensive package that will help Israel defend itself and eliminate Hamas, one of the biggest impediments of peace, disperse additional humanitarian assistance to Israelis and Palestinians, and strengthen our military’s readiness to keep the people of Ohio’s 13th Congressional District safe from threats both at home and abroad. I’ll also continue advocating for a two-state solution that recognizes the rights of both the Jewish and Palestinian people and provides full equal rights for every citizen in each state.”
