Rep. Sykes Statement On House Republican Leadership Chaos
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rep. Emilia Sykes (OH-13) issued a statement on the latest House Republican leadership chaos just days after she put people over politics to keep our government open and critical services running for the people of Ohio’s 13th Congressional District:
“After months of chaos that brought our country to the brink of a catastrophic government shutdown, House Republicans’ failure to lead continues to completely upend the congressional calendar, forcing members back to Washington for a last-minute vote at a time when I was supposed to be in our district meeting with community leaders, hosting roundtables, touring manufacturing facilities, and visiting small businesses,” said Rep. Sykes. “While a personal family matter prevented me from attending this last-minute vote, I would have solemnly voted in favor of the resolution to vacate the Speaker’s chair. My constituents deserve a Speaker of the House who will work together with any member, no matter their party, to find common ground and bipartisan solutions.
“My commitment to the people of Ohio’s 13th Congressional District remains the same — I will always put people over politics to deliver meaningful results and create better lives and brighter futures for everyone in Northeast Ohio. People in my district simply don’t care about partisan infighting between House Republicans. They care about paying their bills, putting food on the table, accessing affordable healthcare, and feeling safe in their communities. Instead of wasting time with political games, I’m focused on addressing the real problems my constituents face by working every day to lower costs, grow the middle class, and keep our communities safe. I urge my colleagues across the aisle to join me in putting the American people first.”
