Rep. Sykes Tours Good Neighbors Food Pantry To Highlight Local Efforts to Address Food Insecurity
AKRON, OH — Today, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) toured the Good Neighbors Food Pantry Inc. in Akron’s Goodyear Heights Neighborhood to learn more about the pantry and how it is working to address food insecurity in Akron.
“The Good Neighbors Food Pantry is a vital community resource dedicated to addressing food insecurity and supporting individuals and families in need. This local pantry plays a crucial role in providing essential food assistance to those facing hunger in the Akron area. I was glad to tour their facility to learn more about the work they are doing and how I can support these efforts to eliminate hunger and food insecurity in Congress,” said Rep. Sykes.
The Good Neighbors Food Pantry Inc. relies on local volunteers to help provide food and resources to others in the community four days per week. In addition to food, the pantry provides items such as toiletries, diapers, formula, dog food, clothing, and more, depending on availability.
In Congress, Rep. Sykes has worked to reduce food insecurity in our communities by introducing the Healthy Food Access for All Americans Act. This legislation would provide incentives to food providers to establish grocery stores, food banks, and farmers markets in traditionally underserved communities so all Americans, no matter where they live, can put fresh, affordable food on the table.
