Rep. Sykes Tours IBEW Training Facility, Discusses Affordability with Union Leaders

AKRON, OH — Yesterday, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) visited the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 306 Training Facility, where she held a roundtable with local labor leaders.

“I was incredibly impressed by the dedication and talent on display at the IBEW Local 306 Training Facility. These programs are not just teaching technical skills – they’re opening doors to good-paying, in-demand careers while strengthening our local economy. When we invest in workforce training, we invest in the people, opportunities, and jobs needed for the long-term success of our communities,” said Rep. Sykes.

Rep. Sykes, a proud member of the Congressional Labor Caucus, toured the training facility, which currently has 155 students taking classes to become certified electricians. Following the tour, Rep. Sykes had a conversation with union leaders about legislation that would support these training opportunities, union benefits, the electrical industry, and more.

“Congresswoman Emilia Sykes has always been a friend of IBEW Local 306, and it was a pleasure spending time with her discussing important issues surrounding labor and how we can continue improving the lives of people throughout our community. We also appreciate her taking time to tour our outstanding apprenticeship training facility and see firsthand the work being done to develop the next generation of skilled tradesmen and women,” said Chuck Zittle, Business Manager of IBEW Local 306.
