Rep. Sykes Votes In Support Of Bipartisan Legislation To Provide Tax Relief To Working People And Families In OH-13

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) voted in favor of H.R. 7024, the bipartisan Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act of 2024, to provide much-needed tax relief for working people and families in Ohio’s 13th Congressional District.

“From day one, I promised to support the working people and families in our communities by putting more money back into your pockets,” said Rep. Sykes. “I’m proud to support this pro-growth, pro-family bipartisan bill which will cut taxes and lower costs for families and small businesses in Ohio’s 13th District. I’m especially excited that this bipartisan bill expands the Child Tax Credit, a policy I have consistently championed throughout my time in public service and included in my Lower Your Taxes Act last year. While there’s still work to be done to fully invest in our workers and families, the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act is a key first step to delivering meaningful relief now for Northeast Ohioans.”

The Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act of 2024 will:

  • Expand the Child Tax Credit, helping Northeast Ohio families afford rising costs and the expenses that come with raising children. 37,000 children in Ohio’s 13th Congressional District would benefit from this expansion.
  • Cut taxes for American companies that invest in research and innovation, allowing manufacturers in Ohio’s 13th District to compete in the global economy
  • Exempt East Palestine train derailment relief payments from federal taxes
  • Make housing more affordable by expanding the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit and spurring the development of affordable homes in Ohio

In October 2023, Rep. Sykes introduced the Lower Your Taxes Act. The Lower Your Taxes Act would expand the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Child Tax Credit (CTC) to lower taxes for working people and families in Ohio’s 13th District. The legislation also cracks down on corporate greed by requiring large corporations pay their fair share in taxes.
