AKRON, OH —U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) announced that the Department of Health and Human Services awarded Stark County Community Action Agency (SCAA) $4,838,538 in federal funding for Head Start and Early Head Start projects in Ohio’s 13th Congressional District.

“I am pleased to announce this funding for Stark County Community Action Agency to support Head Start projects” said Rep. Sykes, “Nurturing a child's love for learning early on lays the foundation for lifelong growth and opportunity. This grant will support the children and families of Ohio's 13th Congressional District by making education more accessible, provide critical health services, and support families in fostering a successful learning environment for their children.”

SCAA is a nonprofit organization, with the mission to provide low-income families and individuals in Stark County with the necessary resources to become economically self-sufficient. SCAA offers several programs including Head Start and Early Head Start.

Head Start and Early Start are federal programs aimed at promoting school readiness for low-income families. In the over 50 years since its establishment, Head Start has helped improve the lives of more than 32 million children and their families. Targeting the ages between 0-5, Head Start and Early Head Start provides a variety of services that improve the well-being of young children and families. In addition to the educational services the program provides, Head and Early Start ensures that children have access to health services, including immunizations, dental, medical and nutritional services.
