Sykes Statement on Two Year Anniversary of Hamas Attack in Israel

Akron, OH – U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) released the following statement on the two-year anniversary of Hamas’ brutal terrorist attack in Israel, which killed 1,200 civilians and saw 251 innocent Israelis taken hostage in Gaza.

“Two years after Hamas’ horrific terrorist attack in Israel, we remember the thousands of innocent people killed and the 48 hostages who remain missing, including two Americans,” said Rep. Sykes. “We also honor the memory of hostages killed in captivity, such as American-Israeli citizen Hersh Goldberg-Polin. This attack shook Israelis and their allies, and its repercussions, including rising antisemitism targeting Jewish communities in the United States and around the world, remain deeply concerning.

“I welcome the ongoing ceasefire talks and remain hopeful they will succeed. Any agreement must secure the release of all hostages, end the violence, and advance a peaceful resolution that relieves suffering for Israelis and Palestinians while ensuring Hamas no longer governs Gaza.

“The United States remains unwavering in its commitment to Israel’s security. Together with the international community, we must continue to work toward the safe return of the remaining hostages and a lasting ceasefire that protects the lives of both Israeli and Palestinian civilians.”
