Twinsburg receives $850,000 grant for Chamberlin Park upgrades
TWINSBURG, Ohio -- The City of Twinsburg will move forward with finishing improvements at Glen Chamberlin Park after receiving an $850,000 federal grant.
Mayor Sam Scaffide announced during a Twinsburg City Council on May 26 that the city secured the grant. The improvements are to “finish off” upgrades at the park that began several years ago through a previous grant, Scaffide said.
Chamberlin Park is one of Twinsburg’s most popular parks, featuring the Birchwood Trail and a center for many community events. In 2014, it was recently extensively renovated and reopened.
Planned improvements include replacing the park’s nature walkway bridge, installing two new picnic shelters, adding new benches and new trash receptacles. The city is also building a new music-and-movement sensory playground designed to encourage interactive play for children.
City officials did not provide a construction start date or completion timeline during the meeting. Officials say the goal is to strengthen community gathering spaces and improve accessibility and inclusivity within the park system.
“These enhancements not only will improve the quality of life for our residents but also contribute to the overall beautification and sustainability of our public spaces,” Scaffide said during the meeting.
U.S. Rep. Emilia Sykes asked the House Committee of Appropriations for the funding. Sykes wrote in a recent press release that the “investment will make the park safer, more welcoming, and more enjoyable for everyone who visits.”
