House Science, Space, and Technology Committee Passes Rep. Sykes’ Bipartisan Legislation To Strengthen Quantum Supply Chains

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Yesterday, the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee passed H.R. 6213, the National Quantum Initiative Reauthorization Act. H.R. 6213 was amended to include Rep. Sykes’ Support for Quantum Supply Chains Act, bipartisan legislation to accelerate the development of secure, resilient, and reliable domestic supply chains for quantum technologies and quantum supporting technologies.

“Quantum technology has the potential to completely revolutionize our world, including improving patient healthcare services, enhancing cybersecurity, and even making weather forecasts more accurate. The Support for Quantum Supply Chains Act will strengthen vital quantum supply chains here at home to create more good-paying jobs and establish our nation as a leader in this transformative technology. I am grateful for the bipartisan support from my fellow members on the House Science, Space, Technology Committee, and I look forward to final passage of this legislation by the full House of Representatives,” said Rep. Sykes.

Rep. Sykes also led an amendment to H.R. 6213 to maximize the application of quantum technologies across a wide variety of sectors, especially healthcare. Healthcare is one of the largest industries in Ohio’s 13th Congressional District, and in Northeast Ohio, local organizations are already utilizing quantum technology to revolutionize healthcare. In 2021, Cleveland Clinic – which has multiple sites in Ohio’s 13th Congressional District – and IBM announced a 10-year partnership to use quantum computing to accelerate research into treatments and vaccines that will improve the lives of patients and solve some of our greatest healthcare challenges. Rep. Sykes’ amendment will empower more organizations in diverse sectors to develop innovative quantum technologies that will create better lives for Americans across the country.

H.R. 6213 now proceeds to the full House of Representatives for consideration.
