Rep. Sykes Announces $250,000 National Science Foundation Grant to The University of Akron
AKRON, OH — U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) announced a National Science Foundation Award to the University of Akron in the amount of $250,000 to support the project entitled Partnerships for Innovation - Technology Translation (PFI-TT): Device to Recycle Scrap Cathodes in Lithium-Ion Battery Factories:
“As a member of the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, I am proud to advocate for innovative problem-solving research methods. Here in Ohio’s 13th Congressional District, this funding will help to solve the challenges of recycling materials from used lithium-ion batteries, which will create new jobs, reduce the need for extraction of rare elements from mines, and decrease the battery cost for electric vehicles and renewable energy storage,” said Rep. Sykes. “I applaud the continued standard of excellence displayed by the University of Akron College of Engineering and Polymer Science.”
