Rep. Sykes Announces Application Opens For 2025 Military Service Academy Nominations

AKRON, OH — Today, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) opened the application process for the Class of 2030 U.S. Military Service Academies. Rep. Sykes invites students from Ohio’s 13th Congressional District who wish to pursue military service to apply for a Congressional nomination to America's military service academies.

“As your Member of Congress, it is an honor to nominate students from Ohio’s 13th Congressional District to attend our country’s respected service academies,” said Rep. Sykes. “The decision to apply to a service academy is a personal one and one of the most selfless forms of service to our community and our country. I am humbled to be a part of the process.”

Members of Congress may nominate candidates for appointment to four of the five U.S. service academies:

  • U.S. Military Academy (USMA), West Point, NY
  • U.S. Naval Academy (USNA), Annapolis, MD
  • U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA), Colorado Springs, CO
  • U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), Kings Point, NY

The U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT does not require a nomination.

Receiving a nomination from a Congressional office is the first step in the process of attending a service academy.  A nomination does not guarantee admission.  If an individual receives a nomination from a congressional office, they must also get into the respective academy to receive an appointment, or admission.

If you, or a student you know, would like more information about attending one of the U.S. service academies, or have questions about the application process, please visit sykes.house.gov/services/student-opportunities/service-academy-nominations for more details on the nomination process, or contact Rep. Sykes’ Akron office at 330-400-5350.

The deadline to submit all application materials is October 17, 2025 by 5 p.m.
