Rep. Sykes Announces More Than $370,000 in Federal Funding to Enhance Support for Youth Education Programs in Summit County
AKRON, Ohio— U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) announced that AmeriCorps has awarded $373,352 in federal funding to Akron Summit Community Action. This funding will expand youth educational services in Summit County through the AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent Program. Since 1964, Akron Summit Community Action has played a vital role in the community by offering essential resources to address the needs of low-income residents.
“I am pleased to announce this funding, which expands the capacity of Akron Summit Community Action to provide critical educational opportunities to our youth,” said Rep. Sykes. “Every child in our community deserves access to the educational and emotional support they need to thrive. That is why this funding is so important, not only to the children that will directly benefit, but also to the individuals who are committed to making a meaningful difference in their lives.”
The AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent Program provides grants to engage Americans 55 and older in service that supports children and youth with special or exceptional needs.
