Rep. Sykes Honors OH-13 Congressional Art Competition Winner
AKRON, Ohio— U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) hosted Addelyn Ferguson, the 2025 winner of the Congressional Art Competition for Ohio’s 13th Congressional District, and her family in Washington, D.C. this week as Addelynn was honored as part of a national reception for her artistic talent.
“The wonderful talent of Ohio’s 13th Congressional District is on full display in our nation’s capital. I was honored to host Addelynn and her family and am so excited to get to walk past her artwork each day on my way to vote on behalf of our district.,” said Rep. Sykes. “Thank you again to all of the talented artists that submitted their work to the 2025 Congressional Art Competition. I look forward to seeing what all of the artists go on to create next.”
Earlier this year, Rep. Sykes announced Addelynn Ferguson, an incoming senior at Portage Lakes Career Center, as the overall winner of the 2025 Congressional Art Competition for Ohio’s 13th Congressional District. The winning piece, titled Lollipop, will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol, alongside winning artwork from all participating districts across the country. Addelynn used bold, bright colors in the photo, which featured her grandmother, to embody her fun, youthful personality.
In addition to the first place overall winner, Rep. Sykes also previously announced the following award winners:
- Second Place Overall: Framed Memories by Lulu Emanuele, Firestone Community Learning Center
- Third Place Overall: An Illumination of Self by Lilliana Bittinger, Springfield High School
- Best Technical Skill: 50/50 by Ethan Owens, Portage Lakes Career Center
- Strongest Message: Tone Death by Darrin Owens, Buchtel Community Learning Center
- Best Photo Award: Thrown Away by Liam Brubach, Portage Lake Career Center
- Best Drawing Award: A Look Closer by Chloe Samples, Lake Center Christian School
- Best Collage Award: Boredom by Christiana Wade, Buchtel Community Learning Center
- Best Print Award: Self-Portrait by Clara Rauschert, Revere High School
- Best Mixed Media Award: Lost in Translation by Emmaleigh Slaughter, Super Learning Center
The second place piece will be displayed in Rep. Sykes’ Akron office for one year, while the third place piece will be displayed in Rep. Sykes’ Canton office for one year.
Each spring, a nationwide high school arts competition is sponsored by the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives. The Congressional Art Competition is an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent in the nation, as well as in our Congressional District.
