Rep. Sykes Announces Over $23.4M To Improve Public Housing In Ohio’s 13th Congressional District

AKRON, OH — U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) announced the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded $23,408,271 in Public Housing Repair funding to Ohio’s 13th Congressional District.

“Every person in Ohio’s 13th Congressional District deserves a safe, affordable place to call home,” said Rep. Sykes. “This investment of more than $23.4 million will help address the lack of affordable housing in our communities by providing funds to build, renovate and modernize housing for low-income families throughout the district.”

The grant recipients and award amounts are listed below:

  • Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority: $15,153,822
  • Stark Metropolitan Housing Authority: $8,254,449

These grants are provided through HUD's Capital Fund Program, which offers annual funding to all public housing authorities to build, renovate, and/or modernize the public housing in their communities. Housing authorities can use the funding to complete large-scale improvements such as replacing roofs or making energy-efficient upgrades to heating systems and installing water conservation measures.
