Rep. Sykes Holds Webinar To Discuss CHIPS Act Grant Opportunities

AKRON, OH — Today, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) and the U.S. Department of Commerce hosted a CHIPS and Science Act Grant Opportunities Webinar. The webinar provided local elected officials, community leaders, educational institutions, and small businesses a technical understanding of how the CHIPS and Science Act will be implemented, and its benefits and opportunities for Ohio's 13th Congressional District.

“Bringing federal dollars back to Ohio’s 13th Congressional District is how we invest in our communities to create better lives and brighter futures for everyone. Today’s webinar will help ensure small business owners, local governments, educational institutions, and community leaders have the information they need to take advantage of the many funding opportunities available as a result of the historic CHIPS and Science Act, which invests in American manufacturing to strengthen our supply chains and create good-paying jobs right here in our district. I’ve always said, my promise to you as your Congresswoman is to better connect our communities to Congress, and I’ll continue working to make applying and securing life-changing grants for our communities as easy as possible,” said Rep. Sykes.

“The bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act is a key part of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda to bring manufacturing jobs back to the United States, strengthen our supply chains, and create good-paying jobs rebuilding our country,” said Adrienne Elrod, Director of External and Government Affairs at CHIPS for America. “I want to thank U.S. Representative Sykes for her leadership to make sure Ohioans know how they can benefit from CHIPS for America and play a critical role solidifying America’s manufacturing and technological leadership in the 21st century.”

The CHIPS and Science Act provides the Department of Commerce with $50 billion for a suite of programs to strengthen and revitalize the U.S. position in semiconductor research, development, and manufacturing—while also investing in American workers. CHIPS for America encompasses two offices responsible for implementing the law: the CHIPS Research and Development Office is investing $11 billion into developing a robust domestic R&D ecosystem, while the CHIPS Program Office (CPO) is dedicating $39 billion to provide incentives for investment in facilities and equipment in the United States.  The historic CHIPS and Science Act will unleash the next generation of American innovation, protect our national security, and preserve our global economic competitiveness.
