Rep. Sykes Honors Veterans This Veterans Day

AKRON, OH— This Veterans Day weekend, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) issued the following statement recognizing the service and sacrifice of veterans in Ohio’s 13th Congressional District and across the nation:

“This Veterans Day, I am thankful for the 40,000 veterans in Ohio’s 13th Congressional District, the 6,000 active-duty military members in Ohio, and our past and present servicemembers across the nation who have risked their lives for our families and our freedoms. Serving our nation is an enormous sacrifice, and Ohio exemplifies this history of service. In Congress, I am working with members on both sides of the aisle to increase access to quality, affordable health care for our veterans, improve education benefits, and end veteran homelessness,” said Rep. Sykes. “On Veterans Day and beyond, I am committed to ensuring our veterans receive the support and benefits they have earned for every sacrifice made in the line of service.”

Since entering Congress, Rep. Sykes has introduced several bills to support our active servicemembers and veterans, including the:

  • Food Access and Stability Act, which would make permanent the Special Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefit expansion that recently passed in the Bipartisan Budget Agreement, so our veterans will always be able to put food on the table; and
  • Pay Our Troops Act, which would ensure our men and women in uniform are never forced to serve without pay in the event of a government shutdown.

Rep. Sykes also strongly supports the Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics Act, or PACT Act, which was signed into law by President Biden and ensures veterans exposed to burn pits and other chemicals have access to the healthcare they need. In July, Rep. Sykes hosted a roundtable at American Legion Post 44 in Canton to discuss these new health care and disability benefits with veterans.
