Rep. Sykes Hosts Annual Elected Officials Breakfast
Event brings together elected officials, community leaders from across Ohio’s 13th Congressional District
GREEN, OH — Yesterday, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) hosted a roundtable with elected officials from across Ohio’s 13th Congressional District to discuss local issues; foster collaboration between local, state, and federal governments; and provide an update about her legislative activity in D.C.
“Local government leaders have a unique understanding of the issues our constituents face every day. Hosting these roundtable conversations encourages cooperation, collaboration, and information sharing throughout all levels of government, so that our constituents can receive the exceptional service they deserve,” said Rep. Sykes. “I’ll continue hosting events like these to reconnect our communities to Congress and provide essential support to our local governments.”
“Open dialogue with Congresswoman Sykes is essential to ensuring we can deliver accurate and timely information to the constituents of our cities, villages, and townships. Events like the elected officials breakfast provide an opportunity for direct engagement which helps to strengthen relationships throughout our community,” said Canton Mayor William V. Sherer II.
“Once again, Congresswoman Emilia Sykes has taken the initiative in gathering elected officials from throughout her Congressional District for the sharing of information in these somewhat turbulent times, and once again she did so in the most bipartisan way. There was a sense of collegiality in the room as mayors, council members, school board members, judges, and safety force directors attended the presentation, and then followed up with questions and answers. Events like these exemplify Congresswoman Sykes' approach to representation. Emilia Sykes is cordial, informative, responsive, and available. We are blessed to have her in service to our communities,” said New Franklin Mayor Paul Adamson.
During the roundtable, participants discussed the Trump Administration’s federal funding freeze, as well as the typical appropriations processes and the positive impact federal funds have on the lives of people in our communities. Additionally, participants addressed the need for improved infrastructure and job training programs, and concerns regarding the Trump Administration’s tariffs; reported plans to dismantle the Department of Education; Elon Musk’s unprecedented access to a sensitive Department of Treasury system responsible for trillions of dollars in U.S. government payments; and more.
