Rep. Sykes Hosts Luxembourg Ambassador Bintner-Bakshian During Official Visit To Ohio’s 13th Congressional District
AKRON, OH — Last week, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) welcomed Her Excellency Nicole Bintner-Bakshian, Ambassador of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to the United States, to Ohio’s 13th Congressional District at her office in Akron. During their meeting, Rep. Sykes and Ambassador Bintner-Bakshian discussed the cultural ties between Ohio and Luxembourg, the significance of major manufacturers like Goodyear Tire Co. in Luxembourg and Akron, and opportunities to strengthen the ongoing relationship between Ohio’s 13th Congressional District and Luxembourg.
“I was glad to welcome Ambassador Bintner-Bakshian to Ohio’s 13th Congressional District,” said Rep. Sykes. “Luxembourg and Northeast Ohio are uniquely connected through a rich history of shared cultural values and economic endeavors. I look forward to continuing to strengthen this mutually beneficial relationship and advance opportunities that will improve the lives of people in both Northeast Ohio and Luxembourg.”
“It was a true honor to be so warmly welcomed by Representative Sykes. Luxembourg has had long and strong historical ties with Ohio, especially with Representative Sykes’ district: Goodyear was the first American company that set up a production facility in Luxembourg. It has been exciting to discover Akron’s dynamic economic environment and we feel a strong connection given our locations at the center of our respective regions. I appreciated my exchange with Representative Sykes on the importance of the US and Luxembourg engagement as NATO allies, in particular in our joint support to Ukraine,” said Ambassador Bintner-Bakshian.
Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., headquartered in Akron, Ohio, has produced tires in Luxembourg since 1951. Goodyear is one of the largest employers in both Northeast Ohio and Luxembourg, with more than 2,500 employees in Akron alone and 3,500 employees in Luxembourg.
