Rep. Sykes Presents $904,000 Check for Silver Lake Sewer Separation Project
SILVER LAKE, OH — Yesterday, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) presented a ceremonial check to the Village of Silver Lake for $904,000 for the Silver Lake Sewer Separation Project.
“I’m proud to deliver this critical funding to the Silver Lake community, which will help ensure Silver Lake is clean and safe for all to enjoy,” said Rep. Sykes. “I will continue working to bring federal dollars back home for projects that will enhance our water infrastructure and improve the lives of people in Ohio’s 13th Congressional District.”
“This funding will allow the Village of Silver Lake to separate its last remaining combined sewer and stormwater line. This means a better infrastructure, cleaner outflows to Silver Lake and the Cuyahoga River, and a healthier community. These are important issues to our Village, and we are deeply grateful to Rep. Sykes for her leadership and advocacy on this appropriations measure,” said Therese Dunphy, Mayor of the Village of Silver Lake.
The Village of Silver Lake will use this funding to construct approximately 1,750 linear feet of new sanitary sewer line and stop overflow into Silver Lake. The project will protect Silver Lake from the elevated discharge of chemicals it is currently experiencing, including nitrates, phosphates, and other chemicals that are detrimental to that vicinity's water quality.
Rep. Sykes presented the ceremonial check to Mayor Therese Dunphy, Clerk and Treasurer Sean Housley, Service Director Mark Lipan, Village Council President Matt Plesich, Village Council Member at-Large Suzanne Garrett, as well as OHM Advisors Principal Tony Burgoyne and Senior Project Engineer Jason Popiel.
The $904,00 for the Silver Lake Sewer Separation Project is one of the 12 Community Project Funding recipients, totaling more than $14.9 million, that Rep. Sykes secured in the 2024 federal spending bill. The other projects included in this funding can be found here.
