Rep. Sykes Statement On Alabama Supreme Court Decision
AKRON, OH— U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) issued the following statement in response to the Alabama Supreme Court ruling that would threaten access to in vitro fertilization and reproductive health care:
“Every American, no matter where they live, should have the fundamental freedom to choose when, if, and how they start a family. These decisions are personal and should be left to women and their families, not judges or politicians,” said Rep. Sykes. “This ruling is just the latest attempt to criminalize abortion and it has dangerous implications for people across the country trying to access reproductive health care, including in vitro fertilization. Many families rely on IVF to have children; since this ruling, clinics in Alabama have already ceased performing IVF, putting the dream of starting a family out of reach. As a member of the Pro-Choice Caucus, I’ll keep fighting to ensure every person in Ohio’s 13th Congressional District has the freedom to make the healthcare decisions that are best for them.”
