Rep. Sykes to Lead Tariffs, Trade, and Strategic Competition Working Group in Problem Solvers Caucus for 119th Congress

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) announced that she has been named Chair of the Tariffs, Trade, and Strategic Competition Working Group in the Problem Solvers Caucus for the 119th Congress. As Chair of this working group, Rep. Sykes will play a pivotal role in ensuring that our communities are not negatively impacted by unfair trade efforts.

“My stance has always been that I will work with anyone, anywhere to deliver results for the people of Ohio’s 13th Congressional District. I look forward to another term working alongside the bi-partisan members of the Problem Solvers Caucus in putting people before partisan politics to advocate for the American people,” said Rep. Sykes. “As the Chair of the Tariffs, Trade, and Strategic Competition Working Group I plan to advance fair trade policies and ensure the United States continues to dominate economically in order to bring good paying jobs and prosperity to communities in Ohio’s 13th Congressional District and beyond.”

The Problem Solvers Caucus is a group of Members of Congress – evenly split between Republicans and Democrats – committed to advancing common-sense solutions to key issues facing the nation. Its Members sit down together every week to debate, exchange ideas, and find common ground. U.S. Representatives Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01) and Tom Suozzi (NY-03) will serve as Co-Chairs for the 119th Congress.

The Problem Solvers Caucus endorsed a record 30 bills during the 118th Congress. These bills address issues ranging from immigration and border security to public safety to child care access, reflecting Caucus commitment to finding bipartisan solutions on issues that matter to the American people. Each endorsement requires support from 75 percent of the Caucus membership, including at least 50 percent of both Democrats and Republicans.

Five caucus-endorsed bills were signed into law, eight passed the House, and an additional three received consideration in committee. View the full list of endorsed legislation here.

In 2023, the Problem Solvers Caucus helped prevent a government shutdown. The caucus endorsed a bipartisan appropriations framework to keep the government open and address the nation’s longer-term fiscal health. Additionally, the Problem Solvers Caucus Executive Council endorsed the Bipartisan Keep America Open Act and sent a letter to congressional leadership urging them to put their differences aside amid discussions to fund the government.

The Problem Solvers Caucus also played a key role in crafting the bipartisan debt ceiling agreement. Building on the principles outlined in the bipartisan Debt Ceiling Framework, the caucus-endorsed Fiscal Responsibility Act raised the debt ceiling, preventing an economic disaster and putting the nation on a path to fiscal sustainability.
