Rep. Sykes Tours Alterra Manufacturing Facility In Akron
AKRON, OH — Yesterday, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) toured Alterra, a plastics recycling company in Ohio’s 13th Congressional District. During the tour, Rep. Sykes met with Alterra’s leadership and workers to learn more about their efforts to turn discarded plastic into an infinite resource for renewed plastic that meets sustainability goals and minimizes reliance on fossil fuels for plastic production.
“I was glad to have the opportunity to tour Alterra's manufacturing facility and meet with workers to witness firsthand the transformative impact of sustainable initiatives on our environment and local economy. Alterra exemplifies our district’s leadership in cutting-edge manufacturing and plastics technologies that not only provide a path to a greener future, but also create good-paying jobs right here at home. In Congress, I’ll continue supporting policies that build a clean and sustainable economy,” said Rep. Sykes.
“It was an honor to host Congresswoman Emilia Sykes (OH-13) for a tour of our plastics circularity facility in Akron,” said Jeremy DeBenedictis, President of Alterra. “We were excited to show Congresswoman Sykes the innovative work her constituents are doing to foster a cleaner planet for future generations through our ability to infinitely recycle discarded plastics. Congresswoman Sykes’ visit comes on the heels of the Biden Administration’s announcement naming Akron as a tech hub for sustainable polymer development, and Alterra is excited about the potential to help Akron not only serve as the Rubber Capital of the World, but also the Sustainable Polymer Capital of the World.”
During the tour, Rep. Sykes and Alterra leadership discussed the importance of reducing pollution and plastic waste and building a sustainable economy. Founded in 2009, Alterra employs 42 people in Akron.
