Rep. Sykes Votes Against House Republicans’ Plan To Make College More Expensive
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) voted against H.J. Res. 88, a partisan resolution to repeal the Biden-Harris administration’s Saving on a Valuable Education (SAVE) Plan, a new income-driven repayment plan that significantly lowers monthly payments for many low- and middle-income borrowers. If Republicans succeed and this bill becomes law, 5.5 million student loan borrowers will see their monthly payments go up, including 16,000 constituents in Ohio’s 13th Congressional District who are enrolled in the plan.
“At a time when costs are already high for people across the country, House Republicans’ partisan resolution to repeal the SAVE Plan would only make college even more expensive for people in Ohio’s 13th Congressional District,” said Rep. Sykes. “I’m committed to ensuring higher education is affordable for everyone who chooses to pursue it so Northeast Ohioans are not drowning in student loan debt as they build a life in our state. Beyond making college more affordable, Congress must also help Americans struggling with other forms of debt, including medical debt, to lower costs and create more opportunities to succeed.”
