Rep. Sykes Votes Against H.R. 1435, Stands Up For Clean Air, Climate, And Good-Paying Jobs
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) voted against H.R. 1435, legislation to amend the Clean Air Act to prevent the elimination of the sale of internal combustion engines.
“As we see more electric vehicles enter the market, new policies must be constructed in a bipartisan, comprehensive way that works for Americans across the nation, especially those right here in Ohio’s 13th Congressional District. Unfortunately, H.R. 1435 is nothing more than partisan rhetoric that disrupts auto manufacturing, including electric vehicle manufacturers right here in Ohio, and I could not, in good conscience, support this legislation in its current form,” said Rep. Sykes. “This bill isn’t about preserving choice; it’s about stripping away progress. I am committed to working across the aisle to create good-paying, union, clean energy jobs, tackle the climate crisis, protect Northeast Ohioans from dangerous air pollution, and invest in American manufacturing to build the vehicles of the future. H.R. 1435 did not meet those standards, and I could not support the bill.”
The International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW), which consists of 150,000 auto workers across the country, strongly opposes H.R. 1435.
