Rep. Sykes Votes Against Resolution That Would Disrupt Ohio’s Emerging Electric Vehicle Charger Manufacturing Industry
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) voted against S.J. Res 38, which disapproves of the Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) action relating to “Waiver of Buy America Requirements for Electric Vehicle Chargers.” This resolution would eliminate the domestic manufacturing requirement for electric vehicle (EV) chargers funded by the FHWA, thereby harming domestic manufacturing and American jobs.
“S.J. Res. 38 would harm the domestic EV charging industry at a time when, thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the CHIPS and Science Act, Ohio is poised to lead the nation in electric vehicle manufacturing,” said Rep. Sykes. “As the sole Ohioan on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I’ll continue to support policies that invest in electric vehicle manufacturing and create good-paying jobs right here at home, not legislation like S.J. Res. 38 that creates uncertainty for this emerging domestic industry.”
Ohio is a leader in the electric vehicle manufacturing industry. The electric vehicle industry is expected to create more than 25,000 jobs in Ohio by 2030, and EV investments in Ohio have topped $8 billion in the past year and a half, thanks to Honda's move to make Ohio the U.S. hub for its electric vehicles and batteries.
