Sykes, Williams Introduce Resolution Commemorating National Nonviolence Week
Akron, OH – U.S. Representatives Emilia Sykes (OH-13) and Nikema Williams (GA-05) introduced a resolution commemorating National Nonviolence Week, which occurs annually during the first full week of October, this year October 6-11.
The resolution raises awareness of youth violence, the need to become a more peaceful society, and the important role that young people in Ohio and Georgia have played in America’s history of nonviolent social change.
“During National Nonviolence Week, I am proud to introduce this resolution with my colleague, Rep. Williams, to promote peace, justice, and equality and to encourage the practice of nonviolence principles,” said Rep. Sykes. “Young people across the country are once again leading movements of social change while standing against the use of violence. I am proud to stand with them to call for peace, justice, and equality.”
“Youth violence is on the rise, and as a mama to my nine-year-old Carter Cakes, I think every day about how we can create a safer future for our children,” said Rep. Williams. “This resolution isn’t just about awareness–it’s about action. National Nonviolence Week empowers young people and communities to embrace nonviolence, inspiring the next generation to be changemakers.”
