Rep. Sykes Again Votes To Keep The Government Open, Working For The People Of Ohio’s 13th Congressional District
WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) issued a statement after voting in support of the bipartisan Continuing Resolution to avoid a government shutdown by extending funding until March 1 and March 8:
“The people of Ohio’s 13th Congressional District simply cannot afford a government shutdown, which is why I voted today in support of bipartisan legislation that will keep the government open,” said Rep. Sykes. “Northeast Ohioans deserve to have trust and certainty in our government. As we continue this funding process, I am committed to doing everything I can to keep our government open and working for the people of our communities.”
The continuing resolution extends the funding deadline for the four appropriations bills set to expire on January 19 to March 1, and for the eight appropriations bills set to expire on February 2 to March 8. Most importantly, the continuing resolution maintains funding at the fiscal year 2023 level and is free of partisan poison pill policy changes.
Rep. Sykes previously voted in favor of extending funding to keep the government open in September and November 2023.
Last year, Rep. Sykes introduced two bills that would provide stability and certainty for Americans across the country in the event of a government shutdown. The Feed Our Families Act would appropriate three months of funding into SNAP’s reserve account in the case of a government shutdown so no families reliant on SNAP go hungry. The bipartisan Pay Our Military Act would provide appropriations for pay and support for all members of the Armed Forces, civilian personnel at the Department of Defense, members of the Coast Guard, necessary contractors, and reservists during a government shutdown.
