AKRON, OH — U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) issued the following statement honoring the 2,977 Americans who lost their lives in the World Trade Center attacks, and the resilience of the first responders who answered the call to serve on September 11, 2001:
“September 11th forever changed us as a nation. The anniversary of this horrific attack provides us with an opportunity to honor those we lost, and to reaffirm our commitment to our first responders – including firefighters, police officers, and paramedics – who stand as pillars of courage in our communities, embodying America’s enduring spirit,” said Rep. Sykes. “Despite the smoke and chaos, their unwavering bravery saved countless lives that day, and reminded us of the deep resilience and unity at the heart of our country. As your representative in Congress, I can assure you I will always fight for those who fight for us, and who put their lives on the line to protect us.”
Rep. Sykes joined the City of Canton for the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb, to honor the first responders who lost their lives in the attacks on September 11, 2001. Participants climbed the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center beginning at 8:46 a.m. to coincide with the time the North Tower was struck.
