Rep. Sykes Hosts Roundtable with Local Labor Leaders
AKRON, OH— Today, U.S. Representative Emilia Strong Sykes (OH-13) hosted a roundtable with local labor leaders from across the district to discuss creating good-paying union jobs, strengthening workforce development programs, and other ways to support working people and families in Ohio’s 13th District.
“It was a pleasure to meet with local labor leaders from across Ohio’s 13th District this week,” said Rep. Sykes. “Conversations like these are important so we can discuss the ways I can best support workers and strengthen our local economy. I’m proud to stand with the working people of Northeast Ohio, and I will continue to fight for higher pay, safer working conditions, and better benefits for all workers.”
“Rep. Sykes’ good work continues and has only been elevated now that she’s at the federal level. She has really hit the ground running. This is the first time in my career that I have been approached by a Congress person who wanted to meet with organized labor to hear about our concerns and priorities. That is a huge step forward. I am proud to have her as a Congresswoman and looking forward to the future with her in office,” said Dave Prentice, AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer.
Rep. Sykes is a proud co-sponsor of the bipartisan Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act, which would strengthen protections for workers’ right to organize a union and bargain for higher wages, better benefits, and safer working conditions.
