Rep. Sykes Statement On Secretary Mayorkas Impeachment Resolution
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) issued a statement on H.Res. 863, a resolution to impeach Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas:
“Once again, the current House Majority is prioritizing partisan politics instead of working in good faith with Democrats to secure the border,” said Rep. Sykes. “I traveled to the southern border just last week to see firsthand the impact of our broken immigration system. After speaking to border patrol officials and migrant families alike, it’s clear that we don’t need more political stunts like this impeachment resolution – we need comprehensive, bipartisan solutions that will reestablish order at the border and create a path to citizenship for those who work, pay taxes, or serve in the military. It makes no sense to destabilize the very agency that is tasked with securing our border. It’s the policy that needs work, and it’s up to Congress to do it. I urge my colleagues on the other side of the aisle to stop the political games and instead work together on real solutions that will keep communities like Ohio’s 13th District safe.”
